Here goes...my first blog. I want to start off by saying, I have a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). If you search #tbi you will find people who are on breathing tubes, in wheelchairs, learning to walk again, and many other stages. To those survivors, please know I say a little prayer for you everyday. Your strength and will is beyond words. Secondly, I'm not a veteran. My injury is not as a result of serving this country in a war zone. I was rear-ended at a red light, did not hit my head on the window or the steering wheel. My car only had $1,700 worth of damage. However, after that day, my home life, my life as a mother, my life as a wife, my life as a friend, and my career will never be the same again. Hardly a day goes by that I don't wish to be sent somewhere, put to sleep for a few weeks, and wake up to no headache, no pain, and feeling rested.

mTBI is referred to as a silent epidemic. The injury to the individual is often undetectable so others think you are back to normal and feeling better. Most days once I open my mouth to speak or attempt to have a conversation, you can tell something is off. I went from an intelligent, driven, break the glass ceiling kind of girl to losing words and forgetting topics mid-sentence.
I was fortunate enough to know someone with a severe brain injury at the time of the accident. She helped and continues to help me with things from doctor referrals to sharing experiences to laughing and crying at the crazy things we think of or do. If you've visited this site, my guess is you or someone you know has a brain injury. I hope this site serves as a place you can connect with, learn from, and share your own experiences. Together, we can get through this.
Thanks for stopping by. Trust the journey..... or at least that's what I keep hearing anyway.
